Top 5 Rookie Wide Receivers
Dez Bryant: Dez Bryant is the most heralded receiver in this draft class and has been hailed as the greatest wide-out prospect since the Detroit Lions Calvin ‘Megatron‘ Johnson. He currently has to battle Roy Williams to start in two receiver sets but it wont take long before he follows in Johnson’s footsteps and takes Roy Williams’ job. Dez Bryant has the ability to be a top-5 receiver in this league within a few years so draft accordingly.
Demmaryius Thomas – Thomas is generating good reviews out of the Bronco’s camp and he will assume the main vertical threat in the Josh McDaniels offense. No, he is not Randy Moss, and he won’t replace Brandon Marshall, but he is being put into the right situation and once the QB situation becomes static in Denver, Thomas will likely have a chance to shine.
Mike Williams – Williams is a 1st round talent who dropped in the draft due to red flag character issues. Issues be damned, this is is fantasy football and reports out of Tampa Bay have it that Mike Williams is indeed showing that he is the better prospect than fellow rookie, drafted ahead of him, Arellious Benn. Mike Williams figures to become the Bucs #1 WR and main vertical threat.
Arrelious Benn – Benn was one of two rookie wide receivers that the Bucs drafted, and Benn is has already been penciled in as a starter. He will be a possession receiver and will be that much more valuable in PPR leagues. Expect the Bucs to roll with the Williams-Benn-Stroughter trio for years to come so get in on these two high upside wideouts sooner than later.
Tie: Golden Tate, Mardy Gillyard, Jacoby Ford – Both Golden and Mardy are exceptional talents buried on their teams depth charts. Golden Tate seems to have an easier hill to climb with Dieon Branch and Mike Williams as his main competition but will likely have to fight for snaps all season. Tate projects as a top-25 WR when he finally gets a full-time job. Gilyard has a tough road ahead of him with two young, talented WR sitting ahead of him on the depth chart. Ideally he would get a role in the slot but that spot is currently occupied by Danny Amendola. Jacoby Ford also has a few players ahead of him on the depth chart but will compete for snaps and likely be heavily involved in the game-plan from mid-season forward. Ford has to contend with Darrius Heyward-Bey, Chaz Schilens and Louis Murphy. However with two excellent pass catching backs and tight end on his team, Ford may have the steepest hill to climb.
Honorable mention: Dexter McLuster Chiefs who has RB/WR eligibilty. If Thomas Jones or Jamaal Charles goes down McLuster will break out.
