The Washington Wizards play four games in each of the next two weeks. ‘Who Cares?’ would be the response by most fantasy sport readers. Other than John Wall’s assists and JaVale McGee’s blocks, the Wizards aren’t exactly the mecca of fantasy stats.
But amidst the Andray Blatche and Nick Young injuries emerge two new fantasy-relevant starters: Jordan Crawford and Trevor Booker.
Trevor Booker has been averaging 13.8 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1 block and 0.8 steals per game, while shooting 60 percent over the past four contests.
Blatche recently made a comment that he can barely lift his arm over his head to shoot, indicating that he is out for awhile longer. Booker, who scored a career-high 26 points last Friday against the Raptors, appears secure in his power forward role within the Wizards starting lineup.
Since the trade that sent Jordan Crawford from Atlanta to Washington, the rookie has gone from a bench-warmer to team-high scorer. Over the past four games, Crawford has averaged 20 points, 3.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
If you can live with the turnovers and low field goal percentage, Crawford could be a decent short-term pickup. Nick Young could be back as early as next week and therefore, I would recommend leaving Jordan Crawford on the waiver wire in most league formats.
Young could be useful in deeper leagues as coach Flip Sanders could resort to a three-guard lineup at times, once Young returns, with John Wall, Crawford and Young on the floor at the same time.
On the other end, there is currently no timetable for Andray Blatche’s return. Trevor Booker should be picked up by any fantasy owner that needs help in rebounds, points, and blocks.
