Week 14 Rankings
The fantasy football playoffs are here! For many it has been a long and arduous season which turned out to be more a war of attrition than a season based on draft skill and knowledge. High waiver priority and prudent use of FAAB dollars propelled man teams into the playoffs while others were set back so much by injury and suspension they could never recover. Some of our readers are already looking forward to next year and we will address you in the coming days but for now lets get to our week 14 fantasy football rankings.
At running back Tre Mason and Justin Forsett both projects as potential RB1’s with easy matchups versus Washington and Miami on the docket. Mason continues to show that he belongs at this level as a featured back and he should e a RB2 regular once the Rams get an upgrade at QB. Forsett has quietly put up RB1 level numbers this season and should be able to eat against a Dolphins team that just got shredded by the Jets. In Denver CJ Anderson is still and RB1 while Jonathan Stewart is a borderline RB2 with DeAngelo Williams out and the Saints susceptible on the ground. Stewart has in large part been a fantasy afterthought bth due to the Panthers struggles and the vulture potential of both Cam Newton and Mike Tolbert but he is still one of the most talented backs in the league but is also one of the most injury prone. We like Frank Gore to take at least one touchdown plunge this week and would not be surprised to see Carlos Hde find paydirt as well against the lowly Raiders.
At quarterback Colin Kaepernick owners should be expecting a bounce back performance against a truly bad Raiders team while Tony Romo owners who still have to start him should also expect better results against the Bears who have given up the third most fantasy points to the quarterback position. The big five remain the big five and the next six names could be slotted anywhere above or below eachother as all have variables they can exploit en route to a big fantasy day. Mark Sanchez is someone who should probably be on most fantasy benches and he has a matchup with, you guessed it, the Seattle Seahawks on slate for this weekend. He may still flirt with serviceable numbers if the Eagles fall behind early as expected but he may find a tough go of things if the Eagles cannot set Jordan matthews loose.
At running back DeMarco Murray should have a field day against the Bears while Matt Forte will do his best to compete with his counterpart in what should be a fun game to watch with all of the talent at receiver and running back on these two teams. Arian Foster remains the focal point of the Texans offense and the emergence of Deandre Hopkins across from Andre Johnson is really going to help him see some more forgivable lanes starting this week.
At wide receiver this week both Jordan Matthews and jeremy maclin take the obligatory ranking dip with the Seahawks on deck while Deandre Hopkins looks to find a permanent place among the top 20. Torrey Smith remains a boom or bust play and thus remains an upside WR3 while future WR1 Donte Moncrief is knocking on the WR3 door for week 14. While we did not quite see the wide receiver explosion we predicted coming into the season there are still up to 50 fantasy relevant receivers on any given week and this week is no exception as we count at least 63 relevant receivers with even more worthy of being looked at depending on league size.
The byes are over and there are a ton of fantasy options so we are please to launch our sit/start tool powered by our friends at FantasyPros.
And without further adieu here are our rankings for week 14 of the 2014 fantasy football season:
