Will Matt Ryan become a tier one QB this year?
Rizzla: No. Matt Ryan will solidify himself as an upper echelon QB but he never had the talent to be a tier one QB and never will regardless of how good his weapons are. He will finish as high as 7th this year but cannot be counted as as an elite tier one QB. It is possible he finished outside the top-10 and it is also possible than Cam Newton or Michael Vick falter and allow Ryan a top-six finish. Draft him for solid upper echelon QB1 numbers but dont expect him to morph into Tom Brady, Drew Brees or Matthew Stafford…he was never that talented.
Zach: Ryan is a good quarterback, but I don’t think he’s tier one material yet. He has two of the best wide receivers in the league but he’s just not consistent enough for me to label him as a tier one fantasy quarterback. That being said, he’s probably one of, if not the, top quarterback in tier two. The only way I see Ryan being a top tier quarterback this season is if a current top tier quarterback suffered a prolonged injury.
J-Has: Ryan won’t eclipse the 5,000 passing yards mark like the tier one QBs that include Rodgers, Brees, Brady and Stafford. But I think he could end the year as the 5th best QB. I expect a regression in Cam Newton’s rushing TDs and forecast a few DNP’s for Michael Vick, leaving that 5th spot up for grabs. Ryan may not be among the most talented at his position, but he does get to throw to the most talented duo of Wide Receivers in Roddy White and Julio Jones.
