AJ McCarron to Miss Three Weeks: Fantasy Context

0

Presumptive Buffalo Bills opening day starter AJ McCarron has suffered a collarbone fracture that will sideline him for at least three weeks according to NFL.com.

After Nathan Peterman’s debut debacle last year there should be little doubt that it is Josh Allen who is now the favorite to start week one for the Buffalo Bills, a job he should hold for the entire regular season.

AJ was struggling in preseason action so there was a possibility this announcement was coming anyways but now we are almost assured; Josh Allen will be thrown into the fire in week one.

Fantasy Context:

Josh Allen – This news solidifies Allen as a QB2 option and while he is bound to have some ups and downs this season Allen should find some measure of success with two big bodied targets in Kelvin Benjamin and Charles Clay. As the adage goes: a strong run game is a rookie quarterbacks best friend and as long as LeSean McCoy is available the Bills have one of the best in the league. Allen has solid athleticism which should help buoy his fantasy value in weeks he may struggle through the air. We have moved Allen up from bye week filler status as our 36th ranked quarterback to our current 26th ranked quarterback.

Kelvin Benjamin – This has to be looked at as good news for Kelvin Benjamin as McCarron failed to prove he was more than above average backup before he got hurt. Allen should lock onto Benjamin weekly potentially helping him to WR2 value. We currently have Benjamin as an upside WR3 pending what we see in next week’s regular season dress rehearsal.
