Daily Fantasy Football: Week Eight at DraftKings

Rizzla discusses his top cost per projected point (CPP) plays for daily fantasy football this week at DraftKings.

The week eight main slate is almost upon us and with the season hitting the halfway mark more and more interest turns to DFS with redraft owners already out of the hunt looking for alternatives. We have you covered as we discuss our top CPP plays for the week.

Jameis Winston ($247 CPP; $6,000 salary)

Our fourth overall quarterback for week eight, Jameis Winston faces off against a Cincinnati Bengals defense giving up the fifth most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. As per FantasyPros Mike Tagliere’s ridiculously in depth primer the Bengals ‘have allowed a top 13 performance to six of the seven QBs they faced this season’, and seem destined to make it seven out of eight. Tenth among quarterbacks with a $6,000 price tag Winston is our top CPP play of the week at $247 per projected point. In a game we expect to exceed the 54.5 over/under there are sure to be plenty of fantasy points delivered from both of these offenses.

David Njoku ($337 CPP; $4,600 salary)

Our fourth overall tight end David Njoku is second among tight ends in target share since Baker Mayfield took over as the Cleveland Browns starter. Eighth in salary rank at $4,800 Njoku looks primed to exploit a plus matchup against a Pittsburgh Steelers defense giving up the third most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. Njoku ranks second in receptions, fifth in air yards and sixth in receiving yards since Baker assumed the helm and should be viewed as a top tier TE1 going forward. Our top CPP play this week at the tight end position at $337 per projected point, Njoku should see a vast improvement on his three reception, 13 yard day he put up against the Steelers in week one and is someone to target in GPP tournaments.

Kareem Hunt ($339 CPP; $7,100 salary)

Our third overall running back for week eight Kareem Hunt checks in this week with a $7,100 salary that places him seventh in DraftKings salary rankings. One of our top CPP value plays at $339 per projected point Hunt looks destined to go bananas against a Denver Broncos defense surrendering the eighth most fantasy points to opposing running backs. Vegas has the Chiefs pegged as ten point favorites in this one suggesting Hunt should see plenty of opportunities in both the run and passing games. Hunt went off for 121 rushing yards and a touchdown and even added 45 receiving yards off of three receptions for good measure the last time these two teams met and looks poised to exceed his total yards from scrimmage in this weeks contest. Third in both rushing yards and evaded tackles Hunt will look to become third back to rush for over 200 yards against the Broncos this season.

Tarik Cohen ($315 CPP; $5,800 salary)

Third among running backs in yards per touch Tarik Cohen has become a weekly fantasy fixture on the strength of his 328 receiving yards (fourth among running backs) and currently ranks 13th among running backs both in total and average points. My seventh overall running back this week, Cohen has a plus matchup against a Jets run defense who has relinquished 5.7 receptions per game to opposing running backs. Cohen has averaged 7 receptions, 12.7 yards per reception and 93 yards per game over his last three contests and should see a similar workload this week. Tenth in salary rank at a $5,800 price tag Cohen checks in as our top running back CPP value of the week at $315 per projected point. The Bears are eight point favorites in this one leading to some game script concern with Jordan Howard profiling as the clock killing back, but if week four is any indication Tarik will remain heavily involved even in what is projected to be a large win.

Once again this week two of our top four CPP plays at wide receiver play in either the late slate or the Monday slate so they are excluded from this column as we are targeting GPP plays only. Adam Thielen and Josh Gordon were two of our top values this week at a $343 cost per projected point and should be your starting point if you are playing contests where either or both of these games are included.

Odell Beckham Jr. ($305 CPP; $7,500 salary)

Our number two overall receiver for week eight Odell Beckham Jr squares off against a Washington defense relinquishing 170 receiving yards per game to opposing wide receivers. Fourth among receivers with 80 targets and a massive 30 percent target share Beckham will no doubt be up for a contest vs rival Josh Norman. Eighth among receivers with a $7,500 price tag Beckham is our top overall CPP play at $305 per projected point. With the Giants expected to be trailing in this one Beckham should see plenty of targets and push for 100 plus receiving yards against Washington’s zone coverage heavy scheme.

Emmanuel Sanders $353 CPP; $6,500 salary

Third in overall points and sixth in average fantasy points per game our ninth overall receiver for week eight Emmanuel Sanders has been even better than expected this season. Anyone who watched Case Keenum target Adam Thielen mercilessly last season knew a breakout was coming for Sanders but few could have predicted that through seven weeks of the season he would average more fantasy points than names like Deandre Hopkins, Mike Evans, Julio Jones and Odell Beckham Jr. With a $6,500 price tag that ranks seventeenth among receivers Sanders looks like a solid value play this week in what promises to be a shootout for a Denver Broncos team currently bumping ugly as ten point underdogs. At a CPP of $353 per projected point Sanders ranks fourth in the NFL with 658 receiving yards and has both a rushing and passing touchdown so far in his exciting season. Despite being top-10 in the NFL with 0.63 fantasy points per route Sanders had a quiet six touch, 63 yard performance against the Chiefs in week four and will look to at least double that output provided Case Keenum can make some competent plays early in this game. Top-12 in targets and still sporting a top-15 fantasy points per target mark of 2.31 Sanders seems destined for a big game against a Chiefs defense giving up the most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers.

Jordy Nelson is actually our number two wide receiver CPP play this week at a cost of $330 per projected point, but since we featured both him and Jameis Winston in our FanDuel column we decided to discuss another name here.
