Nick Foles to the Jacksonville Jaguars: Fantasy Context

Rizzla discusses the Jacksonville Jaguars signing of Nick Foles, and takes a look at the fantasy context.

Nick Foles is the new starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. A long rumored move, the Jaguars found a way to overpay a quarterback no other team wanted.

The Jaguars handed Foles a four year, $88 million dollar deal with $50 million in guarantees. This seems like a steep price when there was no competition for his services. Whether you agree with the average annual value or not, the Jaguars theoretically now have some stability at quarterback, and can get out of the contract following the 2020 season. Hopefully for Jaguars fans they draft a high upside replacement by then.

Fantasy Context:

Nick Foles gets a starting job as expected. With potential destinations drying up, and Teddy Bridgewater sitting out there with significantly more upside, Nick Foles and his agent did a very good job to get this contract from Tom Coughlin and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Foles is now an intriguing superflex option, but should not be considered starter worthy in single QB leagues. He makes for an intriguing streamer, or bye week filler in single QB formats as he does have some nice weapons at wideout.

This move slightly upgrades the values of DeDe Westbrook and D.J. Chark. Keelan Cole is likely to see his snaps dwindle with Marqise Lee back in the fold. Chark is the player that sees himself vault into fantasy relevance here. The popular opinion is that Westbrook will be the biggest beneficiary, but with Donte Moncrief gone he will regularly draw the opposing team’s top corners. D.J. Chark at 6’2 7/8” with 4.34 speed, will be left in single coverage. Dynasty owners who can make adds at this time of the season should do so immediately.
