Randy Moss Released: What the F***?: Fantasy Implications

Vikings Patriots FootballDamn!

One of the best players ever to play at the wide-out position and they do him dirty like this?

By now you can tell I am a Randy Moss fan and am bewildered by the Vikings decision to release their top WR.

Yes, I know Moss threw them under the bus yesterday and that he has been more than upset with the Vikings refusal to try to score points leading up to half time but this is ridiculous.

They gave up a third-round pick for him and the fact he stayed home in Boston with his family instead of traveling with the team and felt frustrated after a loss is no reason to give up on him after 4 games……maybe the Vikings have resolved that they will not make the playoffs this season.

Who knows?

Fantasy Implications:

Randy Moss will likely quickly be snapped up off of waivers and I would love to see him join Sam Bradford and Steven Jackson in St. Louis as their rag-tag crew of WR’s would probably have trouble finding starting jobs in college. His value will likely rise wherever he goes as he had a pretty quiet time in a Vikings uniform.

Percy Harvin takes the biggest hit with this news, but with news of his badly injured ankle he may miss multiple weeks with, this news is not as damning. His injury may have helped lead to Moss’ departure. He will no longer have Moss to attract the attention of opposing D’s.

Sidney Rice is still not ready to return and we will have to wait until at least week 10 to see him take the field again.

Visanthe Shiancoe figures to take back over as the Vikings top target with Moss gone and Harvin dealing with a severe ankle injury.

Adrian Peterson’s fantasy value takes a major hit with this news save except for PPR leagues where he should become more of a factor in the passing game with Moss gone and Harvin potentially dealing with a multiple week injury.

  2. I can accept that Moss is a brilliant WR, but in the past few years he has gone from being somewhat annoting to being more of a problem than TO ever was. Honestly his production isn’t anywhere near TOs and TO is 5 years older.

It seems like Moss is just to high on himself to grow up and play the game …Yes he is one of the best ever but his attitude is a huge problem…Just a note….is Brandon Lloyd holding press confrences and talking bad about his coaches or QB….Miles Austin? No. Wes Welker? Nope. Reggie Wayne? Yeah Right. Either of the Johnson boys? Not Even.

Come on Moss is the ONLY WR left in the league acting like a spoiled brat. He doesn’t even have the stats to back up his ranting anymore.

  3. Hey Remy,

All very good points and this is probably what helped lead to him being waived…production has to outweigh the negatives and they were not this year in NE or Minn

  4. On the other hand his ability to draw defenses and open up coverage for other recievers on the team is a huge asset. I like the idea that the Rams would pick him up, they need a veteran WR presence and someone who can draw attention from the patch work reciever corps the Rams are making do with.

Like you said though, Rizzla, the production doesn’t match and Sam Bradford is doing a great job in is rookie year with so few weapons to work with I don’t know that you would want to subject your franchise QB to the rantings of a mad man.

Before considering Moss i would rather see them ask if Isaac Bruce still wants to play. There are other veterans who can still go out there and do a good job….Keyshawn isn’t THAT old is he…lol.

  5. Hey Remy,

I agree, Percy benefited greatly from playing beside Randy Moss much like Wes Welker did…

After all the stories that have emerged from Minny I agree that adding him to the Rams may backfire but they are contenders right now and adding Moss would at least help open things up for the rest of the offense

Thanks for the thoughts and comments, I enjoyed them, hopefully we can discuss more in the future!
