Not many people have heard of Colorado’s rookie starting pitcher Christian Friedrich. Well, you better get to know him before the rest of your fantasy league does. In his two starts after being called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs Friedrich is 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA and 17 Ks in 13 IP.
In Friedrich’s first outing of the season against the Padres he went six innings, gave up one earned run, and struck out seven batters. In his second outing against the Giants, he pitched seven innings, gave up one earned run, and fanned ten. It was the first time in Rockies’ history that a pitcher struck out double-digit batters in his first two starts.
The 6’4″ 215 lb. rookie is owned in just 26.3 percent of ESPN fantasy baseball leagues and 24 percent of Yahoo! fantasy baseball leagues.

Doesn’t look like Friedrich has worked out too well as a pickup. It is really hard to trust Rockies pitchers no matter how good they have been.
I can agree with you about the Rockies’ starting pitchers, but Friedrich isn’t doing too poorly. His ERA is up there at 5.59, but that’s mainly due to the eight runs he gave up against the Mariners. In five starts this season he’s 3-1 and has one no decision. He is already tied with Jeremy Guthrie and Matt Reynolds for the team lead in wins and has 32 Ks in just 29 innings pitched. He’s really the only Colorado pitcher I semi-trust.
