Buster Posey Fantasy Impact

Florida Marlins outfielder Scott Cousins plowed into Giants catcher Buster Posey at home plate and changed the makeup of fantasy baseball lineups across the globe. The result was a broken leg for the star catcher who will likely undergo surgery on his ankle.

So what now? There are still a few decent options at catcher for those who may not have a reliable backup:

Miguel Olivo, Seattle Mariners- Olivo is available in 98 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues and 91 percent of Yahoo fantasy leagues. He’s hitting a meager .230 but does have 5 HR and 19 RBI going into Friday’s matchup with the Yankees and is, for the most part, a mainstay in the Mariners lineup.

Ramon Hernandez, Cincinnatti Reds- Hernandez is ready to be picked up in about 79 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues. He doesn’t see as much action as Olivo but has still hit 6 HR and 15 RBI on the season.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Boston Red Sox- Jarrod has been seeing the ball pretty well lately, hitting .292 in his last seven outings, en route to a more prevalent role in the Red Sox potent lineup.

Granted, these three options won’t produce the numbers Posey did, but they may give owners a better feeling about the rest of their season.
